Mario still has the ability to get an extra life for every 100 coins, and there are TONS of coins in the levels. Also, lives are meaningless in this game. There is not enough challenge in the levels, and getting to Bowser is a cakewalk with the white raccoon power up. Of course, I am measuring this to the standard of NSMBU, but it is still not quite the best. The level designs aren't great, seemingly designed to cram in tons of coins instead of good platforming. There is a challenge to get one million coins, but the reward for doing that is a disappointment (SPOILER ALERT: It's just a change in the design of the title screen). There is a coin counter which displayed how many coins you have collected. This game has a ton of coins in the levels, and several coin-themed power-ups. This one is the worst of the "New" series, but they're all pretty good. The rest of them have failed to live up to the excellent level design and world map and pure fun of that one. The best game of the New Super Mario Bros series is U.
